Which Membership is Right for me?

Hormone Optimization Add-On

Because male hormone replacement therapy (HRT) requires more time, ongoing lab monitoring, and frequent follow-ups than standard primary care, it is offered as an add-on service to our DPC membership.

  • Male Hormone Therapy: +$49/month

These add-on fees cover the additional support, review, and management time required to ensure safe, personalized care.

*If you’re enrolled in our Extended Access Membership, hormone therapy services are already included.

Can I Use Direct Primary Care With Insurance?

YES! Direct Primary Care (DPC) works exceptionally well alongside insurance, especially when insurance is used for what it does best: catastrophic events, hospitalizations, imaging, and specialty care.

Many of our patients carry traditional insurance (often high-deductible plans) while using Zion Asher Family Physicians as their primary point of care.

Here’s why that combination works so well:

1. Insurance for Catastrophic Coverage, DPC for Everything Else

Insurance is designed to protect you from major, unexpected expenses—hospital stays, surgeries, emergencies, and specialty procedures.

DPC fills in the gaps insurance often leaves behind:

  • Long wait times

  • Short, rushed appointments

  • Limited access to your doctor

  • Delayed care that leads to bigger problems later

With DPC, your day-to-day healthcare is predictable, accessible, and relationship-based, while insurance remains your safety net for major events.

2. More Time Means Better Advocacy

One of the biggest advantages of DPC is time.

Because our doctors are not rushing through insurance-driven visit schedules, we have the capacity to:

  • Review denied claims and prior authorizations

  • Write detailed medical necessity letters

  • Coordinate care with specialists

  • Advocate directly when insurance companies push back on appropriate testing or treatment

In a fee-for-service system, doctors are often too overwhelmed to “go to bat” for patients. In DPC, advocacy is part of the job.

3. Fewer Delays, Fewer Denials

Insurance denials often happen because:

  • Documentation is rushed or incomplete

  • Visits are too brief to fully establish medical necessity

  • There’s no continuity of care

DPC allows for:

  • Thorough documentation

  • Ongoing follow-up

  • Clear clinical narratives that support why care is necessary

That often translates into fewer denials and faster approvals when insurance is involved.

4. Transparent Costs and Fewer Surprises

With DPC, you know exactly what your primary care costs are each month—no copays, no surprise bills, no confusing explanations of benefits.

This transparency allows many patients to:

  • Pair DPC with a lower-cost or high-deductible insurance plan

  • Reduce overall healthcare spending

  • Avoid unnecessary urgent care or ER visits

5. A Stronger Foundation for Long-Term Health

Insurance typically pays for events. DPC focuses on prevention, root causes, and early intervention.

That means:

  • Fewer escalations to costly care

  • Better chronic disease management

  • More proactive testing and monitoring

  • Care that looks at the whole person—not just a billing code

The Bottom Line

Direct Primary Care isn’t a replacement for insurance—it’s a better way to use it.

By combining DPC with insurance, patients get:

  • Personalized, accessible primary care

  • A physician who knows them well and can advocate effectively

  • Coverage for major, unexpected medical expenses

  • A healthcare experience built around relationships, not red tape

If you’ve ever felt rushed, unheard, or stuck fighting with insurance on your own, DPC may be exactly what’s been missing.

Direct Primary Care & Health Sharing Ministries

Direct Primary Care pairs exceptionally well with Health Sharing Ministries, and in many cases is preferred or encouraged by them.

Health sharing networks are built on the idea of community-based support for large, unexpected medical expenses—while also emphasizing personal responsibility and healthy lifestyle choices. This aligns closely with the philosophy of Direct Primary Care.

Because DPC focuses on prevention, early intervention, and strong doctor–patient relationships, it often leads to:

  • Fewer escalations to high-cost care

  • Better chronic disease management

  • Lower overall medical expenses shared by the community

For this reason, several health sharing ministries actively encourage members to use a DPC physician.

Some examples:

  • Liberty HealthShare encourages the use of Direct Primary Care due to improved outcomes and lower shared costs and currently reimburses up to half of a DPC membership fee

  • Samaritan Ministries and Medi-Share similarly supports DPC relationships for their members

We continue to work with health sharing organizations to help our patients maximize savings while receiving high-quality, personalized care.

A Thoughtful, Sustainable Approach to Healthcare

Whether you choose catastrophic insurance, a health sharing ministry, or a combination of both, Direct Primary Care serves as a strong foundation for your healthcare.

By separating routine care from catastrophic coverage, patients gain:

  • Predictable monthly costs

  • Better access to their physician

  • Care that prioritizes prevention, wisdom, and stewardship

Health Sharing Ministries

  • Liberty Healthshare (Offers 50% DPC membership reimbursement)

  • Samaritans Ministry

  • Medishare

  • ChristianHealthcare Ministries

  • Altrua Healthshare

  • Sedera

Again, combining our membership with a health sharing ministry will likely allow you to dramatically reduce your healthcare costs (patients have reported reducing yearly healthcare cost by 50%).
